Moving from January to February:

The month has passed so quickly! Here are some reminders and thoughts to look forward to:
We are looking forward to all the fun activities that are coming up!!!

Due to the anticipated rain tomorrow, our scheduled Day of Play is going to be this Friday, February 5th.  Children may bring in a game or toy to use during their extra indoor recess time. Reminder: NO electronics--- just plain 'old fashioned' toys.

On another note, the kids are working hard on their Famous Leader projects in class. Home projects are due the week of February 22nd. If your child finished their project ahead of time, feel free to send it in.

Our Valentine's Day celebration will take place Thursday, February 11th, from 2:30-3:10. Please use the class list sent home to make sure all students in class have a valentine. Also, please do not send any candy/food treats with valentines.

Happy new year and Welcome back to all!

Dear parents,

Well we have turned another year. Hopefully, I will get better at posting on my blog in 2016!!

Updates and News:

Reading Homework:
*Reading response papers went home tonight to complete with reading homework for tonight.

Math Homework:
*We started a new unit in math today on geometry.  Homelink 5.1 is also due tomorrow. The unit family letter went home before vacation and can be used to help your child with homework (it has answers on it!)

Literacy Unit:

This week we are starting a new unit on non-fiction.  During the week your child will choose a famous leader they will research and write a report about in class.  More information will come home once they choose the leader they will be studying.

*Some students have asked if they can bring a book from home about a certain leader. As long as they have a 'just right' book they can keep in class to write their report it should be fine, but please have them bring in the book so I can check it.  Please note that there will be a home project they will be doing as well.

Please let me know if you have any questions as we move along. More info to come.

Thanks!!

Change of plans:  NO Homework for tonight!!!

Dear parents,

We had a great time on our filed trip! The kids were able to do some really fun activities including making a map of Connecticut during out Mat It! program and making ooblek and imitation snow in the Science Matters program.  Please ask your kids to show you what they made and wrote about today's field trip.

When we got back from our field trip, we found out that we were able to attend the Veteran's Day Assembly in the afternoon.  Which means we didn't have time to do our math lesson.  Therefore, no homework tonght.  Sorry for any confusion. (I'm sure the kids won't mind :D )

We'll be back on track Thursday!

Just a quick update on our day......

We have started to settle into our newly renovated real room with walls.  Yipee! But unfortunately, with all the unpacking this morning. I didn't get a chance to assign homework so I gave everyone 'the night off'.  But I also told them they would have to makeup part of it tomorrow night.  So please look for 2 assignments tomorrow.

Enjoy!

Room 213 Big News:

We have walls! And will be returning to our classroom (Room 213) Monday morning.  Please remind your kids to go upstairs to the 2nd grade wing.  It will be an exciting day as we get to check out our new room, begin unpacking and get acclimated to the new scenery.

Reminder:  Tuesday, (11/10) we will be going on our field trip to the Stamford Museum and Nature Center.  We will be participating in 2 programs:  Science Matters and Maps (introducing our next social studies unit). We will not be back in time for lunch and eating at the Nature Center. Please remember to send a bag lunch that day.

BTW: Since we will be on our field trip, we will not be participating in the school-wide Veteran's Day program.

Wednesday, (11/11) no school for Veteran's Day.

Hello Parents of Room 213!

I just want to let you know that the reading response homework went home to day, but I didn't send math homework. Due to our schedule today, we will start our next math unit on Wednesday.

By the way, reminder: no school tomorrow for Election Day.

Turkey Project:  I also sent home a family Thanksgiving themed project today.  Please discuss with your child and help them to come up with a creative idea to disguise their Tom Turkey so he doesn't get eaten for Thanksgiving. The project is due back November 13th.  If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know. Enjoy!
