Welcome back to school!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe winter break. We have been working hard this week getting back into the routines of the classroom.  Next week we will begin the Winter DRA reading assessments so please remember to have your child read each night and retell the stories to you. There will also be a Math assessment for unit 5 (geometry) at the end of the week. Please look out for the study guides as math homework too.  Thanks for all your support and warm wishes for the New Year to come.

Hi Parents!

Please check your child's folders/backpacks.  A letter went home this weekend to explain about the Nonfiction Research paper your child is writing during Writers Workshop.  The kids need to learn and record facts about their animal from more than 1 resource.  Please help your child find another book or online article that they can use to help write their books. (As much as possible a book they can read independently).

Categories they will write about include:
Where the animal lives (habitat)
What foods they eat (and how they eat)
What does the animal look like
Special characteristics

To go online,  google:    facts about (your child's animal) for kids. That should bring you to a variety of kid-friendly websites that you can look at with your child.

Any questions, just let me know.

Have a great weekend!
Mrs. K. :)

How many math facts can you do in a minute? How about 90 seconds?

As we move further into the math curriculum, it is important for everyone to know their math facts fluently.  To help challenge our Second graders to know addition and subtraction math facts up to 20 we will be practicing this skill as needed and the kids will be taking a math mad minute-and- a half (90 seconds) each month.

To help them with this very important skill, I'm asking that you please work wtih your child and provide them with some time each night to help them learn their math facts.  Some ways you can help:

A Thankful Week:

Tomorrow we will be enjoying our Thanksgiving celebration after lunch with a craft and game with the support of some parents. Thank you in advance for all your help in coordinating this event and helping out in the classroom.

As many parents work, we could use some extra hands with the other holiday parties coming up. If anyone else is interested in helping for our other holiday celebrations, please email me or write me a note. I also sent home a letter form this week which you can return as well.

We are in desparate need ot tissues to help with our sneezes and sniffles. Please send any boxes of tissues that you can spare. It would be greatly appreciated!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Weekend!!

Exciting News is here!  Per Mrs.Manna the building is rodent free.  Which means starting Wednesday, we will begin to have snack in the classrooms once again.  A notice about facilities was written today, but unfortunatley, I did't get my copies in time to give to the kids before they packed up. It is now in their mailbox to go home on Wednesday.

No school tomorrow to celebrate Veteran's Day.  If you see a Veteran tomorrow, please be sure to thank them in honor of their special day.  See everyone on Wednesday.
