We have such busy week ahead of us!

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are scheduled 1/2 days for parent conferences. I am looking forward to meeting with each of you.

We have earned 20 PAWS as a class and will have a celebration this Friday afternoon. We will be watching a movie.  The most popular request was Home Alone.  If anyone has a copy on DVD, would it be possible that we borrow it? Please let me know if you have a copy to share.

With our movie celebration, I usually bring in a special snack such a popcorn.  Since we have been learning about the Layers of Soil during science, I thought it would be fun for the kids to make a special pudding and graham cracker "SOIL" snack.  The following ingredients are included in the recipe.  Please let me know if your child has a food allergy that would prevent them from having this snack. They may bring in a special snack from home to replace the soil snack.

Recipe Ingredients for Soil
will include:
·       Clear plastic cups
·       Crushed m&ms
·       Crushed Graham Cracker
·       Chocolate Pudding
·       Chocolate Sprinkles
·       Crushed Oreos
·       Gummy Worms

·       Green Sugar or Sprinkles

     Thanks for all your support!!!

Happy new year and Welcome back to all!

Dear parents,

Well we have turned another year. Hopefully, I will get better at posting on my blog in 2016!!

Updates and News:

Reading Homework:
*Reading response papers went home tonight to complete with reading homework for tonight.

Math Homework:
*We started a new unit in math today on geometry.  Homelink 5.1 is also due tomorrow. The unit family letter went home before vacation and can be used to help your child with homework (it has answers on it!)

Literacy Unit:

This week we are starting a new unit on non-fiction.  During the week your child will choose a famous leader they will research and write a report about in class.  More information will come home once they choose the leader they will be studying.

*Some students have asked if they can bring a book from home about a certain leader. As long as they have a 'just right' book they can keep in class to write their report it should be fine, but please have them bring in the book so I can check it.  Please note that there will be a home project they will be doing as well.

Please let me know if you have any questions as we move along. More info to come.

Thanks!!

Change of plans:  NO Homework for tonight!!!

Dear parents,

We had a great time on our filed trip! The kids were able to do some really fun activities including making a map of Connecticut during out Mat It! program and making ooblek and imitation snow in the Science Matters program.  Please ask your kids to show you what they made and wrote about today's field trip.

When we got back from our field trip, we found out that we were able to attend the Veteran's Day Assembly in the afternoon.  Which means we didn't have time to do our math lesson.  Therefore, no homework tonght.  Sorry for any confusion. (I'm sure the kids won't mind :D )

We'll be back on track Thursday!

Just a quick update on our day......

We have started to settle into our newly renovated real room with walls.  Yipee! But unfortunately, with all the unpacking this morning. I didn't get a chance to assign homework so I gave everyone 'the night off'.  But I also told them they would have to makeup part of it tomorrow night.  So please look for 2 assignments tomorrow.

Enjoy!

HI! Everyone :)

Just want to remind everyone that tomorrow is our first field trip to the Bartlett Arboretum to learn about seeds.  Lucky for us, the weather is supposed to be the best on Wednesday. Although we will be eating lunch at school, we will be returning after our lunch shift, so please remember to pack a home lunch for your child.

My appologies.... I blogged a minor mistake!!

Picture day is this Friday, 10/16.  NOT tomorrow. Please send your kids dressed for pictures on FRIDAY!!!

Tomorrow Second grade will be participating in a Fire Safety presentation. Remember to ask what they learned about Fire Safety when they get home.  Perhaps they can STOP, DROP and ROLL or you can discuss a home safety plan in the event of an emergency.

Best Regards!!
Mrs. K.

Welcome back!

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Second Grade and our 2015-16 school year!  I hope everyone enjoyed a heart-warming and relaxing summer.  It's hard to believe we are moving along and starting a new school year.   I'm very excited to be working with you and your children to help make this year in second grade memorable and fulfilling.

We have had quite an exciting beginning of school. There are may new positive changes being implemented school-wide this year; including our 6-day color rotation schedule and our new school rules, "Jaguars ROAR".  The students are adapting well (and so am I) as we all work together to make our school a positive, safe and fun learning environment for everyone.

In an effort to help you keep track of the 6-day color rotation schedule I am posting a color-coded calendar for the 2015-16 year. Each day rotates in a color coded order and each Tuesday has a different specials schedule than that color would normally have on any other day.  Along with the color coded yearly calendar, I will post our daily specials schedule so that you can see ahead of time the specials which are scheduled within each week. Although it may seem confusing and overwhelming at first (which I did), once you get the hang of it, I promise it will make sense. Just ask the kids to explain it to you!

Hello and Happy Spring to all my parents!

We have been extremely busy workers and are well on our way to completing our Leading Our Way unit projects.  Each child has completed their research, scrapbook posters and presentation speeches about their leaders.  I understand they have been very busy with their at home projects as well. I can't wait to see the creative ideas they are completing. The students and I are looking forward to having you join us on Friday, May 8th to preview our museum of famous leaders!!

In an effort to help them feel comfortable about their presentations, I will be sending home a copy of their speech notes on Monday.  Please let your child practice their speech each night during the week.  It should only take a few minutes. They will be able to use their notes during their presentation, but if they can memorize their speech they may do so as well.

Can't wait to see everyone. Enjoy your weekend!

Linda

Community Building

Dear Paents,

I wanted to let you know that I have been receiving several complaints from the students about name calling, poking other children, throwing food and crayons and keeping our hands and feet to ourselves.  In an effort to continue building a positive envirionment in the classroom, I have been working with the class to address these concerns so that all our students can feel safe throughout the day.

Please take a few moments to talk to your children about being kind to each other and remind them that name calling is not appropiate and to always keep hands/feet/objects to ourselves throughout the day.

Thank you for your continued support!

Mrs. Karpowich

Febrauary is upon us....

And so we will celebrate Valentine's day on Thursday, February 12th , from 1:30-2:30. A note was sent home today to help your child fill out those friendly valentine's day cards. Please look out for the note in homework folders.

The kids really love these parties, and your help is valuable in making them so much fun!

Our winter holiday party was very successful. The kids truly had a blast! Whether you donated an item or your time, the students enjoyed every minute of it and appreciate all that you do for them as parents.
If you are interested in donating snack or just lending a helping hand for Valentine's Day please let me know. For those of you who have provided an email address, a sign-up genius web link was emailed to you from our room parents.

If you would like to help in some capacity, but prefer not to communicate through email/internet, please send me a note. I will gladly pass along your name and phone number to our room parents so that they may be in touch with you.

As always, thank you all for your time and support in making our children's education memorable and successful.
